J. Scott Miller

Scott Miller is an associate based out of the firm’s Sacramento office. Mr. Miller has defended lawyers, insurance brokers and other professionals against claims of malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, professional negligence and related claims, handling all phases of litigation at the trial level and on appeal. He has achieved favorable results for his clients through demurrers and motions to dismiss, Anti-SLAPP motions, summary judgment motions and related motion practice as well as discovery, trial preparation, settlement conferences and mediations.

Mr. Miller has also defended and advised clients in environmental matters, including environmental professional liability claims, pollution and groundwater contamination and occupational toxic tort claims. He has provided coverage opinions and defended insurers in bad faith actions arising from professional liability claims, directors’ and officers’ liability claims, homeowners’, general liability, environmental and other first and third party claims arising under primary, excess and umbrella policies.

Mr. Miller has advised corporate clients on risk management and other issues involving internet law, privacy and data security, including health care providers, commercial and personal lines insurers, homeowners associations, insurance brokers, financial services institutions and other clients whose businesses use or disseminate private personal data or sensitive commercial information and trade secrets.

Previously, Mr. Miller served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Marvin R. Baxter of the Supreme Court of California. Before law school, Scott worked for several years as an accounting and finance analyst for Sony Pictures in Los Angeles.

Outside the office, Mr. Miller can be seen coaching his son’s little league basketball games, following the collegiate and professional football and basketball teams of California and his native Tennessee, and spending as much time outdoors as possible.
