Robert L. Clarkson is a Shareholder in the downtown Los Angeles office of Klinedinst PC.

A practicing trial attorney with over 27 years of experience, Mr. Clarkson is frequently called upon to represent clients in complex, "bet the company" business litigation. Many of his cases involve class action lawsuits, complicated insurance coverage issues, directors and officers (D&O) cases, and shareholder derivative lawsuits. He is accustomed to representing clients in both state and federal courts, and is an experienced appellate attorney. He has also participated in commission lawsuits, partnership disputes, administrative hearings before government agencies, and NASD arbitrations, including cases alleging elder abuse.

Mr. Clarkson has enjoyed great success in the legal and business community. A brief listing of representative cases include:

Successfully defended a client at bench trial, where Plaintiff was seeking $126 million in damages. Upon conclusion of the bench trial, Mr. Clarkson sued the plaintiff for misconduct, and recovered many millions of dollars for his client

Represented officers and directors of a bank and savings and loan (S&L), against civil and criminal charges

Handled administrative hearings in Sacramento representing businesses before the California Department of Health Services (DHS)

Recovered multi-million dollars in commissions for a highly-respected international architecture firm

Successfully represented client in a contentious multi-million dollar partnership dispute

Successfully represented large Japanese companies over the years in litigation and settlement negotiations

Obtained millions of dollars in settlement on the courthouse steps for a New York-based real estate company

Mr. Clarkson has collectively overseen the settlement of lawsuits involving tens of millions of dollars. A native of North Carolina, Mr. Clarkson earned his J.D. degree from Pepperdine University School of Law. During law school, he was a member of the Pepperdine Law Review. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Washington & Lee University. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and has been licensed to practice law in California since 1981.
