Hartford Brown, a Shareholder of Klinedinst’s Los Angeles office, focuses on providing legal counsel in business and intellectual property litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Brown acts as outside general counsel to a number of his clients, providing advice in a variety of areas, including intellectual property protection and litigation, corporate issues, employment matters, and negotiating and drafting contracts critical to his clients’ business. Mr. Brown represents clients in a number of industries, in both state and federal courts, throughout California. Mr. Brown’s primary focus is defending the intellectual property rights of clients. Within the entertainment industry, he represents filmmakers and television producers, as well as musicians and record labels, in litigation and transactional issues. He works with actors and agents on contractual disputes. He also provides legal advice on corporate formation issues, protection of intellectual property, contract negotiation and formation, and dispute resolution. Mr. Brown has represented various technology and e-commerce companies for over a decade. He began this aspect of his practice in the Silicon Valley “dot com” boom in the 1990s, and continues to this day. His experience is not limited to representing clients in the entertainment and e-commerce industries. Mr. Brown has also represented real estate development companies, skilled nursing facilities and residential care providers and companies in numerous industries. He has handled a wide array of issues, from corporate formation to intellectual property manners, including advising clients on employment matters, business litigation, and a host of other issues. He also has significant experience defending product liability claims made against manufacturers of household appliances, as well as manufacturers and distributors of products used in the construction and healthcare industries. Hartford attended the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Keble College, Oxford University. He received his B.A. in European History in 1994 from the University of San Francisco, before earning his J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 1997. Additionally, he is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, San Diego County Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and has been licensed to practice law in California since 1997.
