Pending Legislation


California Legislation

Below is an update of various California bills:

AB 48 (Lieber) would increase California’s minimum wage to $7.25 in 2006, $7.75 in 2007, and provide index increases every year thereafter. AB 48 passed the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee and is now before the Senate Appropriations
Committee.

AB 169 (Oropeza) would mandate damage awards and new civil penalties for pay equity violations based on gender. This bill is currently is before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

AB 1310 (Nunez) would create a detailed notice process that employers would need to precisely follow in order to utilize severance agreements. AB 1310 is currently in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

SB 174 (Dunn) would create new incentives for the filing of “Sue Your Boss” lawsuits. This bill passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is before the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

SB 300 (Kuehl) would expand the
California Family Rights Act. SB 300 passed the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee and is now before the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
