Ian Rambarran and the Sacramento Bar Helping Businesses "Navigate the Hazards of Cyberspace"

SACRAMENTO - Ian A. Rambarran is once again teaming up with the Intellectual Property section of the Sacramento County Bar Association to help teach about the legal challenges businesses face on the Internet.

During uncertain economic times, it's crucial that businesses protect and preserve their intellectual property from being misused on the web. It is also equally important for businesses to understand recent rules and regulations setup to protect consumers and other businesses from infringement.

As part of a massive outreach to the local business community, the SCBA is hosting a special event on January 13, 2009 titled "Navigating the Hazards of Cyberspace." Admission to the special event is free. Attendees will hear from a respected panel on the fundamentals and nuances in a wide array of areas, including:

• Internet advertising, including aspects of Trademark and Unfair Competition;
  
  
• Copyright, the DMCA and User Generated Content litigation;
  
  
• Secondary trademark and copyright liability for Internet content and misconduct;
  
  
• Privacy regulations and pitfalls;
  
  
• CAN-SPAM Act case law and regulations;
  
  
• Limiting liability with online contracts; and
  
  
• Suing anonymous and pseudonymous infringers and tortfeasors -trends and strategies.

Panelists for the evening's event will include:

• Ian Ballon - Named one of the top 100 laywers in California by Los Angeles Daily Journal and San Francisco Daily Journal
  
  
• Eric Goldman - Associate Professor of Law at Santa Clara University School of Law and Director of the school's High Tech Law Institute
  
  
• Scott Pink - Special Counsel of DLA Piper and member of the American Bar Association's Cybersecurity Task Force
  
  
• Gregory Meath - IP Attorney and Adjunct Professor of Law at Pacific McGeorge School of Law
  
  
• Kayden Kelly - CEO of Blast Advanced Media who has worked with Hewlett-Packard, Lockheed Martin, Sysco, Lennar, Brocade, and Marvell

"This subject continues to catch many businesses and web developers by surprise," noted Mr. Rambarran, who has worked with the SCBA to host previous events on Intellectual Property issues. "The Internet is making it easier for many businesses to promote themselves in the virtual world. However, businesses are still bound by the laws of the real world. Through this very special event, we hope to educate and help companies understand their rights, and what pitfalls to avoid while promoting themselves online."

The event will take place on January 13, 2009 at the California Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento (111 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814). Doors open at 5:30pm, and complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
