Year in Review: Klinedinst '02 Outlines Its Strategies For Success

SAN DIEGO - The highly-rated law firm whose business roots began in San Diego, California, now approaches its 20th year as it enters 2003. In the past year, Klinedinst not only expanded its office in Orange County, but also successfully opened a third office in Los Angeles, in the summer of 2002. Managing shareholders Kevin Gramling, Esq. and Greg Garbacz, Esq. were named to lead the Orange County and Los Angeles offices, respectively.

With the organization of the new offices, attracting talent is one of the key strategies toward the continued growth of the firm. Klinedinst's shareholder team promoted two of its high-performing associates, Carey Cooper, Esq. and Jennifer Lutz, Esq. to shareholders.

Carey counsels and defends a variety of clients in environmental, construction, mold and indoor air quality, corporate, and real estate matters. She successfully handles complex negotiations with various administrative agencies and prosecutorial bodies. Carey is an active member with many national and local environmental organizations and provides support by creating awareness of legal issues through speaking engagements, publishing articles on environmental topics; in addition to leading the development of the website www.FETTI.org as a means to disseminate pertinent information.

Jennifer represents employers in all aspects of employment disputes in state and federal court, as well as before administrative and governmental agencies. Jennifer has successfully litigated disputes involving issues of discrimination, wrongful termination, harassment, and defamation. Jennifer communicates legislative updates and educates her clients through speaking engagements, publishing articles and training on issues such as wage and hour law compliance, employee privacy, family and medical leave, reductions in force, and contract disputes.

The promotions helped bolster the firm's core practice groups: Construction/ Environmental and Employment and Labor law. Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Kohn states, "Our fastest growing practice areas: Intellectual Property, Professional Liability, Transportation, Entertainment, and Appellate law are also viewed as business growth opportunities for the firm."

Shareholder Kendra Hall was recently certified as an Appellate Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. She has practiced law in California since 1993 and continues to handle a substantial number of civil appeals and writs before the California state and federal appellate courts. Kendra chairs the Klinedinst's Appellate department and supports the efforts of the State Bar of California and the Appellate Court Committee of the San Diego County Bar Association.

By the fourth quarter of '02, the firm had increased its employee headcount by 14%. Practice management staff were hired to support the growing practice areas, 5 new associates as well as the addition of two laterals, Stefan Blasig and Melissa Dagodag. Stefan joins the Orange County office and has over 7 years experience in corporate and commercial law. He brings a unique combination of European and U.S. legal education and experience to the firm. Stefan's professional background includes: corporate law, logistics agreements, insurance coverage, international business and trade, transportation, admiralty and maritime, German, and water law. Melissa joined the LA office and will support the business, entertainment and intellectual property practices. Prior to Klinedinst, she was the Vice-President and in-house counsel of an entertainment and music royalty collection company.

Additionally, Klinedinst announced in December '02, its newest associates: Charmaine Buehner, Damian Dolin, Greg Guth, and Matt Wiese.

Chief Executive Officer, John Klinedinst states, "Our overarching strategy is the value we place on our intangible assets; our culture attracts people who inherently understand the importance of client service." Mr. Klinedinst continues, "The firm plans to continue investing in its people, geographic expansion, and uphold its reputation for the highest ethical practices, professional integrity and civility to its clients and the law profession."
